SendGrid is your move if you're doing transactional email at serious volume or need bulletproof deliverability for a user-facing product — but if you're just blasting marketing campaigns, you're paying for infrastructure you don't need. The free tier gets you 100 emails/day which is basically useless for growth work, so you're really evaluating the paid plans against Mailgun or AWS SES depending on whether you want the UI sugar or raw API control.

Best use case: pairing it with your product's notification system (onboarding flows, password resets, digest emails) while running marketing campaigns through a cheaper tool like ConvertKit or even Klaviyo if you're ecommerce. Skip it if you're a early-stage founder still in "send emails from your personal account" phase — the setup tax isn't worth it yet.
